Performance and historical returns

The SoFi Select 500 ETF is an average-sized ETF that falls into the large cap growth category. It consistently outperforms returns for its category, although 2022 was a hiccup that saw -22.84% annual returns (with a category average that was also negative). However, it bounced back in 2023, and by 2024, it was outperforming the category average.

The SoFi Select 500 ETF produced an annual dividend of $1.1042 for 2024, and continued growth has been shown as we progress through 2025.(2)

Benefits of investing in SFY

  • Long-term stability. As part of the large cap growth segment, SFY has been largely stable, with regular returns most years.(2)
  • Affordable. This SoFi ETF has some of the lowest annual operating expenses in its category, with a net expense ratio of just 0.05%.(1)
  • Diversified holdings. SFY works across many sectors, including technology, financials and consumer services, lowering overall risk.

Drawbacks of investing in SFY

  • Passively managed. Because the SoFi Select 500 ETF is passively managed, there is less room to personalize investments to your risk level or financial goals.
  • Heavily weighted. Technology accounts for nearly half of sector weightings, which can be a serious problem for investors if it underperforms.

Is now a good time to buy the SoFi Select 500 ETF?

Although it has shown some volatility, the SoFi Select 500 ETF has consistently produced positive growth for investors. There have been some periods of decline, but this ETF has shown positive annual dividends each year since 2019.

It has been a lucrative pick for investors based on historical patterns, but always remember that any investment carries risk. Ultimately, the decision to buy the SFY ETF depends on your personal financial goals, risk tolerance and investment strategy.
