Discord is a voice, video and text communication platform founded in May 2015. The company offers an iOS, Android, Linux and Windows version to download, serving 150 million active users. Users can also upgrade to Nitro basic and Nitro to unlock a wide array of features such as larger downloads, custom emojis, HD video streaming and more. The company was in the top 50 most visited websites as of 2023 with almost a quarter of visitors from the United States.

August 20, 2024: Discord unveiled its new activity in partnership with Amazon Music. Dubbed Amazon Music Listening Party, the experience will take advantage of the fact that music is consistently one of the top experiences that friends want to enjoy together directly on Discord before, during and after gaming, according to VentureBeat.
July 31, 2024: Discord is giving Xbox console users more of the features already available for PC and Mac users, like viewing live streams and starting direct calls. Your Xbox friend list will now also include your Discord friends, and you’ll be able to see what your friends are up to through Discord’s “Happening Now” tab, according to PC Magazine.
There are rumors that Discord may go public in 2022, but the company hasn’t filed any official documentation with the SEC. Until that happens, information surrounding this company’s potential listing is entirely speculative.
The company was in talks with Microsoft over a potential acquisition in 2021. Microsoft reportedly put forward a $10 billion bid for Discord, but Discord opted to remain independent.
