LendingTree vs. Rocket Mortgage

Compare home loan programs, fees and requirements to decide where you'll get your next home loan.

Our verdict: Consider including both options as you shop for a mortgage

Comparing a lender to a mortgage broker service is a little like trying to contrast apples and oranges. Both companies strive to save you time, and both offer quotes, but that may be the end of their similarities. So rather than ranking these two companies, you should choose the one that best meets your needs.
LendingTree can kick-start your comparison shopping by allowing you to enter your financial information once and get quotes from potential lenders who may be a good match. But while the service is free to homebuyers, it’s also known for failing to protect your contact information from spammers.
If you’d rather avoid the spam and shop around yourself, you may consider adding Rocket Mortgage — the largest mortgage lender in the US — to your list. This lender charges a fairly steep application fee as high as $750 but offers a streamlined application process and quick response time.
In the end, you could choose to work with both as you research lenders. Use the table below to understand what you should look out for before you apply.

Customer reviews

As of November 2021, LendingTree has a rating of 4.5 out of 5 based on more than 10,300 reviews on Trustpilot. Borrowers say they like the simplicity and convenience of finding a loan through this platform. All that’s required is completing a single online form, after which you’re given multiple lenders and loan offers to choose from. On the other hand, LendingTree is only rated 1.53 out of 5 stars from 76 customers on the Better Business Bureau’s (BBB) website. The most common complaint is the volume of phone calls and emails customers receive after inputting their information to get a quote. LendingTree shares your contact information with a variety of third-party loan providers, and some of these lenders may contact you more often than you’d like.
Rocket Mortgage, previously known as Quicken Loans, also gets pretty high marks from customers. As of December 2021, the company earns a 4.48 out of a 5-star rating on Zillow from over 7,880 reviewers. Satisfied customers mention helpful, attentive and personalized service from loan officers, along with lower-than-expected interest rates and fees. Borrowers also liked Rocket Mortgage’s MyQL to track their loan’s progress. However, some customers were surprised about unauthorized credit inquiries, and others say that loan advisors were pushy when trying to close a loan. While Rocket Mortgage appears to offer good service, it has fairly numerous complaints on the Better Business Bureau website.
