Boxing Day TV sales 2024

Boxing Day is undeniably one of the biggest shopping days of the year in Canada. The Boxing Day sales period runs from 26 December to 15 January.

We don’t need to tell you that Boxing Day is one of the biggest shopping sale events on the calendar. With an ever-expanding list of retailers competing with price slashing discounts to win our attention, and ultimately our custom, Boxing Day is expected to be bigger than ever this year.

Why is it that Boxing Day brings one the biggest sales of the year? Well, retailers don’t want to leave themselves short over the festive period. The knowledge that hundreds of shoppers will be buying gifts for family and friends tends to see stores overstocking on their wares. Their overcompensating means that they end up with stock that they need to get rid of before they can introduce the new releases that January brings. In a bid to clear out their shelves, retailers cut back costs on thousands of products, which is music to our ears.

To give you an insight into how many irresistible sales and discounts Boxing Day brings, Canadians spent approximately $1.2 billion on the sale last year. During the Boxing Day sales, which span from 26 December to 15 January, the average spend per person was in the region of $328.

Which stores had sales last year and what were the savings like?

Practically every major retailer in the consumer electronics sector has a Boxing Day sale last year. The discounts and deals were dramatic and hard to resist last year. For example, Walmart reduced TVs by up to $200, and Best Buy offered us savings of up to 50% on big branded TVs.

Here is a selection of stores that offered impressive price reductions in their Boxing Day sale event last year.

  • Newegg: Up to 40% off selected TVs
  • Walmart: Up to $200 off
  • Best Buy: Up to 50% off
  • Amazon: Daily deals and discounts across consumer electronics
  • eBay: Up to 60% off
  • Target: Up to 40% off
  • SIG: Up to 95% off
  • AliExpress: Up to 60% off
  • Sony: Up to $500 off HDTVs
  • Visions Electronics: Up to 80% off

Which do we predict will have a Boxing Day sale this year and what do we recommend?

Based on the Boxing Day sales last year, it’s safe to say that all major Canadian retailers will have a sale of some description this year.

We expect to see fierce retailer competition across consumer electronics in a bid to win our custom. Here are a collection of our favourite TV retailers that may bring the discounts you need to be tempted into upgrading your old set for a newer model.

  • Sony
  • SIG
  • Amazon
  • Target
  • Best Buy
  • Walmart

Is Boxing Day a good time to invest in a new TV and is it worth buying?

If you’re in the market to upgrade your TV, then Boxing Day is the absolute best time to buy. This is a sale event that brings some of the most tempting discounts you’ll see all year, which means there is no better time to trade in your old set for a new one.

TIP: If you’re pining after a specific brand of TV, say Sony or LG, you’d be better checking out the price cuts at the big brand department stores like Visions Electronics, Amazon, Target, and Walmart before buying direct, to save you from learning you could have gotten a better price elsewhere.

Is Boxing Day better for buying smart TVs, 3D TVs or curved TVs?

That’s completely your decision. Whatever your preferred style of viewing, you’re sure to get a better price on upgrading your TV in the Boxing Day sales.

If you’re planning on purchasing a new TV in the sales, your best bet is to do a little research on the different models available and the features and specifications offered by each. A new TV is a mammoth purchase and one that shouldn’t be taken lightly, so be sure that the one you’re buying comes readily complete with all the bells and whistles you’re expecting.

Here are the three top TV trends you’ll need to consider.

Smart TVs.

Smart TVs are rapidly growing in popularity. They feature integrated Internet and active “Web 2.0” features which make accessing Netflix’s catalogue of binge-worthy TV shows and movies even easier.

3D TVs.

3D TVs are a revolutionary technology that conveys visual depth perception. Most modern models are autostereoscopic, which means you won’t need glasses to indulge in the 3D experience.

Curved TVs.

Curved screens help viewers feel immersed in the viewing experience. The curved displays wrap the visuals around you, which elicits the thought that whatever you’re watching is real and offers a wider field of scope.
