There’s typically no impact on your credit score just from accepting a sign-up bonus or earning rewards using your account.
However, if you’ve switched current accounts to secure the offer or reward, this can affect your credit score. But only temporarily.
When you open a new account, banks tend to do a “hard” credit search, which will show on your credit file. This will reduce your credit score very slightly, but the effect is short-lived. We have a full guide on this.
You can switch a joint account to another joint account as long as the other person agrees. You can also switch from a single account to a joint account, but not the other way around.
Yes, lots! If you’re in the market for a student account, you’ll find lots of big names offering accounts packed with rewards, including free railcards, vouchers, generous overdraft terms and cash incentives. We have a full student bank account comparison here.
Beyond cash switching incentives, there are other rewards on offer. Some banks offer a welcome cash deal just for opening an account. Others have a high interest rate on credit balances or linked savings accounts. You’ll also find cashback deals available and ongoing monthly reward programmes.
We show offers we can track - that's not every product on the market...yet. Unless we've said otherwise, products are in no particular order. The terms "best", "top", "cheap" (and variations of these) aren't ratings, though we always explain what's great about a product when we highlight it. This is subject to our terms of use. When you make major financial decisions, consider getting independent financial advice. Always consider your own circumstances when you compare products so you get what's right for you. Most of the data in Finder's comparison tables has the source: Moneyfacts Group PLC. In other cases, Finder has sourced data directly from providers.
