If you’re in the space for a bank switching deal, you’ve probably come across 1 or 2 from Halifax. These guys seemingly can’t get enough of switching offers, as we’ll explain in more detail.
Halifax goes to great lengths to be seen as the people’s bank, including catchy campaigns with relatable characters. It’s why we’ll never quite get that “Who? Who? Wh-who?” out of our heads ever again. But it might all be worth it if Halifax switch bonuses are able to give you that “extra” they keep talking about. So, let’s have a look and find out.
Is Halifax currently running a switching offer?
Halifax is not offering a bank switching bonus at the moment, but it does have a long history of pretty lucrative deals.
What switching offers have been available in the past?
July-August 2023
One of the more recent bank switching bonuses from Halifax also happened to be one of the best. In summer 2023 you could net £225 for making the switch. First, you’d get £150 after 10 working days when opening a qualifying account. Then, if you spent £75 per month for 3 months, you’d unlock another £75 cash bonus.
November-December 2022
Another increase, this time adding £25 to the previous switch deal and amounting to £175 in total. This mirrored the previous deal in many ways – think £1,500 a month, a couple of direct debits and so on.
July-September 2022
The stakes increased from the previous offer, but this £150 switch bonus also came with a few extra steps. Not only did you now need to pay in £1,500 or more, but you also had to switch over at least 2 direct debits.
March-May 2022
This was a reactivation of the previous offer with very few differences. Again, you had the chance to pocket a £125 switch bonus when opening selected accounts and paying in at least £1,500 a month.
November-December 2021
This switch bonus from Halifax dished out £125 within 10 days of your switch being completed. You could open a Halifax Reward current account or Ultimate Reward Current Account using the Current Account Switch Service. If using the Reward Current Account, you needed to pay in £1,500 or more each month.
August-September 2020
There was a little break after Halifax’s series of back-to-back switch bonuses before it reemerged with an opportunity to snag £100. Again, you needed to deposit £1,500 a month, and if you didn’t you’d need to pay a £3-per-month fee to keep on track.
November 2018-April 2019
This £135 switch bonus was bigger than previous ones, but required a lot more effort. Instead of getting paid within about a week, it took 6 months. You’d get £50 quite quickly, then the remaining £85 after paying in at least £1,500 per month for 6 months.
March-November 2018
After a few ups and downs, Halifax again settled on £75 as the appropriate bank switching bonus. There was little variance in terms of the hoops you had to jump through to grab these bonuses – but you could only claim 1.
February-March 2018
Not long after their previous bank switch bonus, Halifax upped the ante and boosted the switch bonus from £75 to £125. Good things come to those who wait, it seems.
January-February 2018
You could get a £75 reward for switching to Halifax at this time, paid within 7 working days of the switch being completed. You had to use the Current Account Switch Service to unlock the bonus.
When might the bank launch a new switching offer?
Halifax is generous with its switching offers and has been known to release one after the other in bursts. It could therefore launch a new switch offer at any time.
