Read the full methodologyWhat is Clydesdale Bank?
Clydesdale Bank is part of independent banking group CYBG, which also owns Yorkshire Bank and recently purchased Virgin Money. Despite CYBG being the purchaser, Virgin Money will be the brand that will remain, while the Clydesdale Bank and Yorkshire Bank brands are retired.
At the time of writing Clydesdale Bank offers non-business customers a choice of two cards. Whether you’re looking to spread the cost of a large upcoming expenditure, transfer an existing balance to save on interest or avoid fees on overseas spending, a Clydesdale Bank credit card could be worth a closer look.
As part of the Mastercard network, Clydesdale Bank credit cards are accepted in more than 43 million locations worldwide. As a bonus, cardholders have access to exclusive entertainment and travel experiences through the Mastercard Priceless Cities programme.
What benefits can I get with Clydesdale Bank’s credit cards?
With the excellent deals available from Clydesdale there is no need to pay a high interest rate on your credit card balance. Clydesdale offers market-leading 0% interest promotions for card spend, and for transferring a balance from a different credit card company. A generous mix of card offers includes low rates for balance transfers and a card that offers a low rate for the lifetime of the card.
- Smart app. The Clydesdale Bank app features fingerprint ID (if your phone has this functionality), allowing you to log in quickly and securely. You can use the app to create and manage payments, search transactions and opt out of printed statements.
- Global usage. Clydesdale Bank uses the Mastercard network, meaning you can use your card in more than 35 million locations worldwide.
Security. Have peace of mind when shopping online with Mastercard SecureCode. - Priceless Cities. Access exciting experiences and offers in cities across the world using Clydesdale Bank’s Mastercard credit cards. This includes 2 for 1 tickets to top attractions, exclusive savings on everything from high fashion to boutique floristry and discounts on restaurants and hotels.
- Contactless payments. All Clydesdale Bank credit cards are enabled for contactless payments of up to £45.
- Overseas spending. If you travel frequently, you could benefit from the 0% foreign transaction fee on purchases (excluding cash withdrawals) of the B card. You can also enjoy access to Mastercard’s Priceless Cities events and offers. This card also, as of July 2019, offers an unusually low ongoing interest rate.
- 0% purchases and 0% balance transfers. Clydesdale Bank’s Gold Mastercard offers interest-free periods on both existing credit card debt that you transfer to the card on opening, and upcoming purchases you make using the card. If you’re planning a big expenditure on a new card, then comparing 0% purchase cards is a smart place to start. Don’t forget that when the introductory 0% periods expire, any outstanding balance, or purchases from that point onwards, will accrue interest at a much less competitive rate.
