Volkswagen Tiguan insurance costs

To provide you with an idea of how much it could cost you to insure your Volkswagen Tiguan, we used a scenario to run a number of quotes from a selection of insurance providers. In our scenario, we found, on average, we could insure our Volkswagen Tiguan with a comprehensive policy for the cost of £62.41 a month, or an annual price of £674.99. For our enquiries, we used a specific scenario. Quotes will vary according to your own circumstances (more on this below).

Which factors affect my Volkswagen Tiguan insurance rate?

There are many factors that impact your insurance premiums. These include:

  • Your age, marital status, job and where you live
  • The model and age of your car
  • Your car’s safety rating, security and any anti-theft precautions
  • Annual mileage
  • Your driving activity
  • The size of your car’s engine
  • No claims discount

How can I save on my Volkswagen Tiguan premiums?

We’ve devised these tips to help you save cash on your premiums:

  • Pay annually rather than monthly. By paying annually, we’d have saved £73.93 a year, on average, in our scenario.
  • Make yourself a secure investment. If you maintain a good credit rating and a clean history of no claims, you may just find yourself being rewarded by your provider with lower premiums.
  • Be economical about your car usage. Whilst it is tempting to use your car for all your travelling needs, by limiting how much you use it, you could actually save on your premiums.
  • Don’t just accept your renewal quote. The quote that you’re given when it’s time to renew isn’t always your best option, so make sure you look around and compare some quotes before you commit – and haggle!
  • Install extra safety precautions. Providers don’t like to insure risks, so the safer and more secure you can make your car, the lower your premiums may become.
  • Avoid driving convictions. Convictions of any kind will increase your premium rate, so try your best to avoid any.

Volkswagen Tiguan facts

  • The Tiguan was voted the 4th best medium SUV of 2017. It was also voted the 9th best SUV overall in 2018.
  • The name Tiguan is pronounced tee-gwan and is a portmanteau of the German words for tiger and iguana.
  • The name was selected from a naming contest by a German car magazine. Other possible winning names included Namib, Rockton, Liger, Samun and Nanuk.

Bottom line

The Volkswagen Tiguan is a vehicle which oozes quality, and can be relatively inexpensive to insure. The tips in this guide will help you lower your insurance costs even further.

The offers compared on this page are chosen from a range of products we can track; we don't cover every product on the market...yet. Unless we've indicated otherwise, products are shown in no particular order or ranking. The terms "best", "top", "cheap" (and variations), aren't product ratings, although we always explain what's great about a product when we highlight it; this is subject to our terms of use. When making a big financial decision, it's wise to consider getting independent financial advice, and always consider your own financial circumstances when comparing products so you get what's right for you. Most of the data in Finder's comparison tables has the source: Moneyfacts Group PLC. In other cases, Finder has sourced data directly from providers.
