What are Tesco Bank’s different policies?
Tesco’s lowest level of comprehensive cover offers up to £100 in medical expenses, a small courtesy car if your car needs fixing after an accident, replacement child car seats after an accident (up to £300), 90 days of cover in the EU and up to £1,000 of personal accident cover.
This mid-range comprehensive cover has everything Bronze has, plus an uninsured driver promise, windscreen cover, audio/visual/electronic equipment cover and £200 of personal belongings cover. If you’re involved in an accident and make a claim, you can get up to £150 towards any costs you incur to get to your destination or home again after.
Tesco’s top comprehensive policy offers everything in Silver, with cover for misfuelling, lost keys, an enhanced courtesy car and replacement child car seats. It has higher levels of personal belongings cover (£500), personal accident cover (£7,500) and getting home after an accident (£500).
Third party only cover meets the legal minimum to insure against third-party claims, but provides no cover for your own car.
This policy covers for third-party claims and also for fire or theft to your own vehicle. Tesco only offers it for cars valued under £5,000. It also comes with replacement child car seat cover up to £300, EU cover for up to 90 days and emergency medical treatment up to £100 per person.
Tesco’s Box Insurance is specially designed for drivers aged 17–35. It’s a comprehensive policy and requires a telematics box to be installed in your car. You choose a policy to cover 6,000, 8,000 or 10,000 miles and are able to upgrade if you need to. You’ll earn rewards for safe driving and the box can track the car if it’s stolen. If it’s involved in an accident, it alerts Tesco, who can call for help if necessary.

What is my excess?
An excess is the amount of money you contribute to the cost of your claim. The amount of your excess will depend on the level of cover you have and the nature of your claim. Details of your excess amounts will be displayed in your policy schedule.
Sometimes more than one excess will apply and, in this case, Tesco Bank will add them together.
There are 2 types of excess:
Compulsory excess, which is set by the insurer underwriting your policy. This is added to the voluntary excess you choose, to give the total amount of excess you will pay if you make a claim.
Voluntary excess, which comes in addition to any compulsory excess. You can set this as low as you want to reduce the amount you have to pay if you make a claim, or you can increase it, which may reduce your premium. Make sure you can afford to pay the amount you set, should the need arise.
The Tesco Bank claims team is available around the clock, 7 days a week.
