As we’ve already established, it depends on the model. One factor affecting insurance groups is engine size. In general, the bigger the engine, the higher the cost of your insurance, because these engines are more expensive to repair or replace. For example, it may cost £1,092 to insure a Mercedes B-Class B180d AMG Line 5d, while you may pay £2,202 for a Mercedes B-Class B220 4Matic Sport 5d Auto. That’s more than an extra £100 per year to insure a Mercedes B-Class with a larger, more powerful engine.

One advantage of the Mercedes B-class is its safety rating. The safer your car is, the less of a risk it will be for companies to insure, and therefore the lower your premium is likely to be. In its Euro NCAP crash tests, the B-class achieved a full 5-star rating. This rating included a 96% rating for protecting adult occupants and 90% for protecting child occupants. Ask your insurer about additional safety and/or security features you could install to lower your premiums and keep you and your passengers safe.
