Our verdict

LV='s comprehensive car insurance is a strong competitor in the market. The company is well respected and did well for customer service in our survey. We picked its comprehensive policy as best for cheaper rates because, after running quotes for a range of different age groups, we found that LV= tended to offer competitive insurance quotes across the board.

A downside is that some changes to your policy can result in admin charges and cancellation past the 14-day cooling-off period means paying a cancellation fee. However, LV= isn't the only insurer to charge these kind of penalties so it’s best to consider the policy in line with your personal requirements to see whether LV= car insurance is right for you.

Remember, cheapest isn’t always best. Get started by visiting LV=’s website and sign up for a policy. If you have read this review and decided that LV= is not for you, you can also compare other car insurance policies on the market.

How do I make a claim?

Call the LV= claims line on 0330 678 5550 to register a claim. Lines are open 24/7. If you’re abroad call +44 1689 898603.

LV= recommends you have the following to hand, to make a claim:

  • Personal contact details with the person you had the accident with.
  • Photos/videos of the damage to your car.
  • Contact details of any witnesses of the incident.

It’s vital that you let your insurer know about an incident as soon as possible, even if it’s not your fault. Failure to do this could result in a rejected claim later on.

What is my excess?

Your insurance excess is the amount of money you will need to pay towards a claim. Your insurer won’t pay out for a claim that costs less than this amount. A compulsory excess amount might vary depending on the age of your car and your driving experience.

A voluntary excess is on top and is normally set by you when taking out a policy. You’ll have the option of adding or increasing a voluntary excess, which should lower your premium.

You’ll find details about any compulsory or voluntary excesses in your policy document.
