The Audi RS3 was first sold in early 2015 as an update on the traditional Audi A3 model, embracing its role as an estate vehicle while showcasing a powerful engine and sleek exterior.
Audi presented the 2017 RS3 Sportsback edition as ‘an everyday sports car, fitted with a not-so-everyday engine.’ The RS3 is certainly something special: unlike other executive cars you might see, the RS3 can go from 0 to 60mph in just 4.3 seconds.
In this guide, we’ll look at RS3 car insurance costs and how you could save on your premiums.
What insurance group does the Audi RS3 fall under?
Vehicles in the UK are categorised into insurance groups, ranging from group 1 (the cheapest) to 50 (the most expensive), which partly determine the cost of your premium.
Audi RS3 models belong to insurance group 40, meaning they will fall on the expensive side.
However, the insurance group isn’t the only factor determining the cost of your car insurance: one of the most important other factors is your age. The younger you are, the more risk you represent to insurers, and the more you’re likely to pay for insurance.
That’s why, in the table below, we show you the cost you’d be likely to pay at a few different ages.
Model / Version | Group (1-50) | Age 20yrs | Age 30yrs | Age 40yrs | Age 50yrs | Link |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
2.5 TFSI RS 3 Quattro Nav 5d S Tronic | 40 | £20,469 | £2,005 | £1,813 | £1,527 | Get Quote |

Audi RS3 insurance cost by location
The table above shows the average cost of Audi RS3 insurance based on insurance groups and driver age. However, many other factors affect the cost of your car insurance premiums, and one of the biggest is where you are in the UK. Where you live helps determine the level of risk that your car may be stolen or that you’ll be involved in an accident, and this affects the cost of insurance.
To demonstrate the power of the postcode, here are some average quotes for a 30-year-old living in three different locations. The quotes are for an Audi RS3 2.5 TFSI RS 3 Quattro Nav 5d S Tronic.
- Expensive: £4,786 (London SE1)
- Average: £2,005 (Newcastle NE1)
- Cheap: £2,005.63 (Galashiels TD1)
What other factors affect my Audi RS3 insurance rate?
We’ve covered the impact of insurance group, driver age and location. Here are some of the other factors that affect your insurance premium costs:
- Your annual mileage
- Your marital status
- Your car’s safety rating score
- The model of your car
- The age of your car
- Your car’s security features
- Your car’s anti-theft precautions
- Your driving history and activity
- No claims discount
- Your credit history and occupation
How can I save on my Audi RS3 premiums?
When searching for insurance, you’ll want to find the best deal for a price that’s within your budget. We’ve uncovered some tricks you can try to lower the cost of your premium: take a look below.
- Limit your car usage (where possible). Occasionally deciding to walk or get public transport, rather than using your car, can help to save on your premiums.
- Pay annually rather than monthly. It might be scary to part with a large sum in one go, but if you’re able to pay annually you can usually save a good chunk of money compared to paying monthly.
- Don’t just accept your renewal quote. When it’s time for renewal, it’s worth investing a couple of hours to shop around: there may be cheaper options out there.
Is an Audi RS3 cheap to insure?
Let’s say you’re doing everything you can from the list above: you’re driving less, you’re paying annually, you’re shopping around for insurance quotes. Does that mean you’ll find an Audi RS3 cheap to insure?
As we’ve already established, the short answer is no: RS3s are at the pricier end of the car insurance market. This is at least partly because of the engine size. In general, the bigger the engine, the higher the cost of your insurance, because these engines are more expensive to repair or replace: and an Audi RS3 comes with a 2.5-litre engine.
However, one advantage of the RS3 is its safety. In its official Euro NCAP crash test, the Audi RS3 scored a full five-star rating. It’s rated 95% for protecting adult occupants and 87% for protecting child occupants. This is good news for you and your passengers, but also for your wallet: the safer your car is, the less of a risk it will be for companies to insure, and therefore the lower your premium is likely to be.
Bottom line
Insuring an Audi RS3 won’t be cheap, but you can use the tips in this guide to help keep your premiums down. If you’re on the lookout for a car insurance provider, check out our comprehensive list of the best car insurance companies in the UK.
