If you’re looking for a comprehensive car insurance policy, Ageas has many helpful benefits included as standard. There is also access to a 24/7 legal helpline and a 24/7 claims line.

Only comprehensive cover is available for cars, so those wanting to take out third party only or third party, fire and theft cover will have to look elsewhere.

With Ageas you can only get comprehensive car insurance, which includes a courtesy car, European cover and onward journey assistance. In this review, we look at what Ageas will cover you for in detail, the claim process and how you can save on your policy.

Who is Ageas?

With roots going back as far as 1824, Ageas is one the biggest insurers in the UK with more than 3 million customers. It is part of an international group too.

If you like a human touch it has a 24/7 in-house claims team. Meanwhile you get a lifetime guarantee on any repairs done by one of its approved garages.

Who underwrites Ageas car insurance?

For the most part Ageas Insurance Limited underwrites its own car insurance policies. Yet legal expenses are underwritten by AmTrust Europe Limited.

What are Ageas’ different policies?

Ageas only offers 2 comprehensive policies: Essentials and Standard. It also offers van insurance, which is available as third party, fire and theft and comprehensive.

How do I make a claim?

You can speak to Ageas’ claims team all year round and every hour of the day by calling 0345 165 5796.

It’s a good idea to have your insurance details and information about your claim to hand when getting in touch.

For windscreen claims you should call 0345 165 0581 instead though. Likewise you’ll need a different number if you have a personal accident claim, a legal protection claim, a breakdown or you’re calling from abroad. Check the Ageas website to find out the contact details.

What is my excess?

An excess is the amount of money you have to pay towards a claim before the insurance money kicks in. Usually this excess fee won’t be any higher than £350 and the point of it is to stop customers making frequent claims for small repair jobs.

By volunteering to have a higher excess you can lower your insurance premiums, although you need to make sure you can afford to pay the fee should you need to make a claim.

Customer reviews for Ageas car insurance

Customers who took part in Finder’s 2023 customer satisfaction survey were mostly positive about Ageas, with many highlighting its “reliable” customer service and competitive cover options. However, some did not like the high premiums.

One customer said, “My insurance was easy to set up, and they offered the best quote for my needs.

Ageas received an overall customer satisfaction score of 4 out of 5, and 79% of customers would recommend the brand to a friend.

On reviews site, Trustpilot, Ageas scores 4.0 out of 5 from almost 16,000 which is a “Great” rating.

How to cancel Ageas car insurance

You can cancel your policy online. There is a 14-day cooling-off period when you purchase a policy. If you cancel after that there is a £50 cancellation charge. You’ll also be charged for the amount of cover you’ve used.
