Where can I use PayPal Pay in 3 or PayPal Credit?

PayPal’s Pay in 3 buy now, pay later (BNPL) service is available on purchases of £30–£2,000. PayPal Credit is like a credit card, but it’s effectively a credit limit attached to your usual PayPal account. So unfortunately, you can’t simply use it anywhere that takes credit cards. PayPal Credit is a finance product, with a 0% interest-free period and a late fee. Rep 23.9% APR (variable).

What is PayPal?

If you’re a regular online shopper, chances are you’ve already heard of and used PayPal. If you haven’t, it’s a quick and hassle-free way to send and receive money using an email address and your credit or bank card.

It’s accepted around the world and you can use it to pay for goods in various currencies (you will be charged a conversion rate if it’s not your native currency). It also provides security such as buyers’ protection.

How does PayPal work?

PayPal acts as a middleman for payments between 2 parties with registered accounts. It’s quick and easy, and money can be sent to a person without the need to share personal details or banking information. All you need is the email address of the person you’re sending money to. Simple!

What is PayPal Pay in 3?

PayPal has a BNPL option for you to split the cost of an item into 3 instalments at the checkout when you shop at the websites listed above. The plan lasts 2 months in total, with the first payment taken at the time of purchase (you can choose to settle the full amount before 2 months). PayPal’s Pay in 3 used to charge late fees for missing a payment, but these were scrapped at the end of September 2021. However, it’s crucial you ensure you can afford the repayments. Payments are taken automatically and there’s no way to pause, suspend or withdraw from the service once you’ve agreed to its terms. PayPal reports how you’re managing your account to credit reference agencies, so if you miss payments, you could damage your credit rating in the future.

Pay in 3 could be a good way to spread costs for more expensive items and manage your budget, but it’s crucial you’re able to make the repayments.

Some shops with Pay in 3 include ASOS, Marks and Spencer, Screwfix and George at ASDA.

Is PayPal safe?

PayPal is generally a safe place to send and receive money. It will automatically encrypt any confidential information sent to or from your computer using the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol, with an encryption key length of 128 bits, the highest level available. Despite this strength, you should do the usual checks when protecting your financial information, including not writing down important numbers or passwords and ensuring that your passwords are strong.

Scammers may try to hack into your PayPal account by sending you emails stating you’ve made a purchase you haven’t made. If you notice anything strange, log in to PayPal normally (not via a link in the email) to check your account hasn’t been compromised.

Is there a PayPal fee for using the service?

There is no fee for opening an account with PayPal, but there are fees for certain types of payments. Here’s what’s free and what you have to pay for in the UK:

  • Paying for purchased items: free
  • Receiving payments from a purchase: fees apply
  • Sending money to friends and family: free
  • Receiving money (from friends or family): free
  • International payments: exchange rate fees apply if there is a currency conversion
  • Currency conversion: fees apply

How do I get PayPal?

Getting a PayPal account is easy. Go to the website, click the Sign Up to PayPal.

How do I pay through PayPal using a credit card?

When creating your PayPal account, you will be given the option to link your credit or debit card to your account. This has the benefit of allowing you to transfer larger sums of money or to withdraw sent money to a nominated bank account. Once you’ve linked your cards to your account, whenever you transfer money or make a payment, you will be given the option of paying from one of your cards.

It’s worth remembering that normally when you pay for an item costing more than £100 using your credit card, you get extra protection under section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act. For a long time, there was a grey area about whether using your credit card with PayPal meant you lost this protection.

But in a key ruling by the Financial Ombudsman revealed in January 2022, a consumer was able to use this extra protection to get a refund from his credit card provider for faulty goods because he’d used PayPal’s guest checkout – in other words, PayPal was simply processing the payment. If he’d paid using his PayPal account, drawing on his credit card, he would have lost the right to get a refund from his credit card company.

The easiest way to ensure you have section 75 protection on credit card purchases over £100 is to log out of your PayPal account and pay as a guest. This will cut out PayPal as the middleman and show there’s a direct link between your credit card and your purchase.

Is there a limit to how much I can buy using PayPal?

If your account has been verified, there is no limit on the total amount of money you can send, although there is a single transaction limit. You’ll be given the option to verify your PayPal account during set-up.

What is the processing time for PayPal?

Once sent, PayPal funds are typically received within 2–3 days, although this will be much quicker for verified accounts. If you use PayPal to sell or purchase items, the transaction will appear immediately on your account. For international transfers or large amounts, expect to wait up to 21 days for the funds to become available.

Does PayPal have offers?

Does Morrisons accept PayPal?

No. Although the popular supermarket chain previously did accept PayPal, as of 21 August 2019 it’s no longer an accepted payment method.

    Do PayPal credit increase your limit after a certain time?

      Yes. Paypal regularly reviews your credit line and may invite you to increase your limit, once you’ve had PayPal Credit for at least 3 months.

    How do i use PayPal Credit to transfer money to another persons bank account plz & is it poss ?????

      Unfortunately, it is not possible to transfer money from Paypal account to a bank account. Please note that the transfers are only happening within the system (Paypal to Paypal account).

      I am sorry to hear about the unsuccessful PayPal credit use. Usually, you will receive an email with more information about why your PayPal Credit was unsuccessful. If you applied during check out and get declined for PayPal Credit, you can still use PayPal to check out securely using your debit or credit card.

      If you wish to re-apply for PayPal credit, you have 35 days after your last application to do it. You may call the PayPal Credit customer service team to for further details.

    Why can’t I use my PayPal credit on any site? It doesn’t give the option

      Thank you for leaving a question. Have you just created a PayPal account? If yes then you might need to contact customer support with PayPal to check if you have completed all the necessary information for PayPal credit. You no, then an option should show at check out to use PayPal credit.

      It may be a good option to seek help from PayPal support directly if you have used PayPal credit in the past.
