What is Allstar?

Allstar is one of the largest fuel card providers in the UK. It offers the widest network of fuel sites, as well as discounts on diesel purchases at selected stores.

In 2017, Allstar introduced the Allstar Plus card which combines its regular fuel card with the features of a business charge card.
This aims to help companies reduce their admin, better manage their cash flow and increase their working capital while making savings on their diesel and vehicle services.

How does an Allstar Plus card work?

The Allstar Plus card functions much like a regular business charge card, but can also be used to get discounted diesel at over 1,600 Discount Diesel sites in the UK, as well as offering access to special deals on vehicle servicing, repairs and business travel.

The Allstar Plus card can be used to cover all forms of business expenses. These include stock purchases, paying suppliers, accommodation, travel, e-commerce, etc. You can also include additional cards for your employees and tailor them to specific job roles, all while controlling employee spending by setting limits per day, week, month, and even spending type.

Allstar also offers a business expense management app alongside its card for an additional fee of £6 per month. This app offers you the opportunity to save more time on your admin and take the “paper” out of “paperwork” (and possibly some of the “work” too) by streamlining your expense admin digitally. With the help of this app you can upload receipts easily and run in-depth expense reports via a customisable dashboard.

How much does an Allstar Plus fuel card cost?

As well as paying interest on any outstanding balance, you may need to pay additional fees when using your Allstar Plus business card, including:

  • Late payment fee – £12
  • Replacement card fee – £6
  • A risk-based fee – charged to some customers, per litre of fuel, and based on Allstar’s view of their credit risk
  • Convenience fee of up to 1.5p per litre – extra charge if you don’t use certain networks or stations

Like all credit based charge cards, it is wise to only spend as much as you can afford and to repay your debts in full, each month. Allstar have stated in their Card Terms and Conditions that “late payment may also trigger a risk based fee being applied to your purchases and/or result in the removal of any discounts you may have the benefit of.” So, if you are concerned about a missing payment or a late payment, get in touch with Allstar as soon as possible to avoid any negative charges to your account.

Where can you use an Allstar Plus fuel card?

You can use an Allstar Plus business card at any retailer that accepts Visa, as well as at over 7,700 fuel sites around the UK, including Shell, Esso, Gulf, BP, Star, Texaco, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda, Co-op and Morrisons.

You can also get 10% off servicing, maintenance and repairs at 1,200 garages and around 240 tyre fitters.

The bottom line

If you’re in the market for a business charge card that helps lighten the travel costs for you and your employees, the Allstar Plus business card aims to cut some of the unnecessary admin that can plague SMEs. By combining the features of a regular business charge card with an Allstar fuel card, it could be worth considering for businesses that spend a lot of money, or time, on business travel and driving expenses. Not to mention, with this card, you could be eligible for discounts on every litre at over 1,600 Discount Diesel sites.

But, if you’re unlikely to take advantage of the potential fuel and vehicle maintenance discounts on offer, you’ll likely find a better deal on your business card elsewhere. And, unless you repay your card in full and on time each billing month, you could face a late repayment fee, that may also trigger a “risk based fee”.
