LV= Britannia Rescue is the breakdown cover service available from one of the UK’s biggest insurers. Here’s our analysis of what you get, plus reviews from customers who’ve used the service.
What types of policy are on offer?
There are five types of policy available with this provider, listed below in order of cost, from the cheapest first.
- Roadside Assist. Breakdown cover for anyone driving the vehicle, with recovery up to 10 miles from where you break down.
- Roadside & Home Assist. With this policy, you’re also covered at home and within a quarter of a mile from your home.
- UK Recovery. With this policy, you’ll be covered throughout the whole of the UK, although not within a quarter of a mile from your home.
- UK Recovery & Home Assist. With this policy, you’ll be covered throughout the whole of the UK.
- UK & European Assist. With this policy, you’ll be covered throughout the whole of Europe.
You’ll get a hire car or overnight accommodation, when necessary, with the final two policies. You can also pay to add personal cover, so you’re covered when driving any car.
Claims process
If you break down, call the 24-hour helpline on 0800 929 111. You’ll need to have your policy number and the exact details of where you are. If you’re not in your personal car, you’ll also need details of the vehicle you’re in.

Our verdict
This is one of the more comprehensive breakdown policies. With five choices of cover available, you’re likely to find one that includes what you need, and doesn’t include extras that you don’t want. LV= is not a top-scorer for service though.
