If you have an account with TD Bank, you might already know about its wire, ACH and online banking transfers worldwide. But you might not know that its rates tend to be more reasonable rates than other banks.
It’s also among the growing banks that support free and domestic money transfers through Zelle, which integrates into its site and app.
Like many other big-name banks, TD Bank can get your money to friends and loved ones across the country or around the world. Overseas transfers are your standard international wire, whereby the bank exchanges your US dollars into the currency of your recipient, charging you a fee for the service. Customers say that rates are reasonable for a bank, but fees can be as high as $40 a transfer — again, standard for most banks.
TD Bank is among the many that partners with Zelle to transfer cash quickly and at no charge to nearly anybody in the States with an email address or mobile number. You can also schedule free transfers to another TD Bank customer online or through the bank’s app.
TD Bank owns its foreign exchange currency trading platform, which results in rates that tend to be stronger when compared with other banks and credit unions.
The bank recommends wiring foreign currency, instead of US dollars, when sending money abroad, as doing so can mean faster payments and more competitive rates. It could also result in lower fees, as correspondent banks often charge more for currency exchanges during transfers.
For international transfers, TD Bank charges a fixed $15 fee for incoming and $40 for outgoing international money transfers. Domestic transfers come with a fixed $25 fee.
These rates compare favorably with other US banks. For instance, PNC charges $45 for outgoing transfers and $15 for incoming transfers from other countries.
Domestic transfers to existing TD Bank customers and those sent through Zelle are free.
TD Bank does not appear to enforce a minimum transfer amount on domestic incoming and outgoing transfers. Rather, your limits might depend on your relationship with the bank. The same is true for incoming and outgoing wire transfers from and to other countries.
Because TD Bank is an international financial institutions, you should be able to send money to recipients in other countries with a correspondent TD Bank.
TD Bank offers domestic and international wire transfers, as well as online money transfers through its online banking app. You can also schedule regular payments through your online account or the app.
You must own an account with TD Bank to send money domestically or internationally.
To set up your international transfer, you’ll need:
Set up international wire and ACH transfers online and at your local branch. Cutoff for wire transfers is 2 p.m. each day, regardless of where you’re sending it. After 2 p.m., your transfer is based on the next day’s exchange rate.
TD Bank integrates Zelle’s payment platform for domestic transfers, allowing you to set up transfers easily from your phone with only your recipient’s email address or phone number. Delivery to non-Zelle accounts can take from up to five days for delivery.
Track the progress of your money transfer through TD Bank’s banking app or your online account. If you set up your transaction through your local branch, call for details.
It’s not easy to know the exchange rate you’ll get until you set up your international money transfer, making it difficult to compare what you’ll pay with other banks.
It’s also likely that you can find stronger exchange rates and lower fees with an international money transfer specialist like OFX or Wise.
