As its name implies, ezTaxReturn is a straightforward way to file your taxes online. It offers one simple plan, which includes a free federal return for qualified filers who have a simple tax situation. Like many other online tax preparation services, ezTaxReturn offers step-by-step guidance to help you file your taxes correctly. It also comes with maximum refund guarantees. That said, if your tax situation is more complex, such as having self-employment income or itemized deductions, you won’t qualify for a free filing and will need to shell out $29.99 for federal and $24.99 for state. Also, it isn’t available in certain states.

Affordable pricing
The ability to file federal tax returns for free is always a nice perk, and the pricing for state and federal filings for everyone else is pretty fair. If you can’t get a free federal filing with ezTaxReturns, it costs a flat $29.99. For comparison, TurboTax is a very popular online tax service, but if you don’t qualify for free filings, it can cost anywhere from $99 to $309 just for federal filings depending on the plan you choose or are required to use depending on your tax situation.
Free tax return downloads
Free filers can get free federal return downloads until May 15, 2025, and $9.99 downloads afterward.
If you file your state and federal tax returns with ezTaxReturns, you’ll get free copies of your tax returns for up to three years. After three years, you can request a printed tax return via First-Class Mail for $19.99 or get it mailed overnight for $34.99.
Offers extra services
These services are entirely optional.
- Audit defense protection. For $39.99, ezTaxReturn will represent you during an audit and work with the IRS to minimize penalties.
- Amended return insurance. For $9.99, this insurance allows you to change a return you already filed.

Where it falls short
Like most tax filing services, ezTaxReturn lets you pay for your filing with your tax refund (if you’re owed one), or you can pay with a credit or debit card. However, it costs $29.95 to pay for its services with your refund.

Though a few people complained about unexpected charges, glitches and poor customer support, many filers find ezTaxReturn easy to use and appreciate its straightforward interface.
On Trustpilot, ezTaxReturn doesn’t do that well. But with only a handful of reviews, it’s not a large enough sample to draw definitive conclusions, so take it with a grain of salt.
