We compared multiple cash advance apps that were compatible with Chime and compared loan amounts, turnaround times, subscription fees, the time between advances and eligibility requirements.
Does my cash advance app work with Chime?
If you have a favorite app that didn’t make our list, it might still work with your Chime account. Take a look at our table to discover other cash advance same-day loans that accept Chime.
Chime offers a solid checking account with no fees, early paydays — and, most importantly, free overdraft protection that will “spot you” up to $200 until your next paycheck.
Unlike other cash advance apps that work with Chime, SpotMe is instant, which means you don’t have to request it. When the app sees that you’ve overdrawn on your account, it simply covers the balance until you get paid again.
SpotMe’s eligibility requirements are easier than other cash advance apps that work with Chime. You’re golden if you have an active Chime debit card and receive at least $200 in qualifying direct deposits into your Chime checking account each month.
Chime also has a new cash advance feature, MyPay, that offers advances up to $500. You’ll pay a $2 fee for instant transfers, but it’s free if you can wait two days. The only problem is that MyPay isn’t available in every state just yet.
The biggest disadvantage with Chime is that it doesn’t play nice with all cash advance apps and loan providers. If you don’t qualify for Chime, or its $200 overdraft limit is too low, it may be worth switching to a free checking account that works with more cash advance apps.
Does the EarnIn app work with Chime?
Sort of. At the time of writing, EarnIn is allowing a small group of test users that bank with Chime to use EarnIn. Since Chime users receive their payment two days before their scheduled payday, EarnIn states it makes it difficult to support Chime users.
You’ll find out if you’re eligible to use Chime with EarnIn when choosing a bank during the app setup. If you select Chime from the banking list, you’ll see a message on whether you can use it.
Alternatives to cash advance apps for Chime customers
Cash advance apps are helpful if you need small sums between paydays. The maximum loan amount is typically around $250, although a few go up to $500 or more. And, in most cases, new users can’t borrow more than $50 at a time until they’ve used the app for a few months.
If cash advance apps aren’t right for your needs, consider these alternatives:
0% credit cards. Instead of getting a cash advance, you could apply for a credit card with a 0% introductory rate and get no-interest financing on purchases for up to 18 months or more.
Local resources. Many cities and states support local programs to help you cover food, utilities and rent when money is tight. Consider looking into these resources if you rely on cash advance apps to get by.
Credit counseling. A credit counselor can help you create a plan to bring your spending back in line with your income. And in some cases, they may be able to find enough “free money” in your budget to avoid borrowing money at all.
Credit card cash advance. If you need money in a pinch, consider withdrawing cash from your credit card. You’ll pay a transaction fee, and interest starts accruing immediately without a grace period, but your limit could be higher than a cash advance app. Cash advances come with a high interest rate, so consider a card like the PenFed Platinum Rewards Visa Signature® Card that offers a lower-than-average cash advance rate. PenFed also doesn’t charge transaction fees for cash advances, unlike most cards.
Bottom line
These seven cash advance apps that work with Chime aren’t your only means of getting a short-term loan. Compare other cash advance apps or payday loan alternatives before you decide.
