Finder analyzes expert price predictions each quarter. We surveyed 27 crypto industry specialists in October 2024 to get their thoughts on how ether (ETH) would perform through 2030.

All prices mentioned in this report are denominated in US dollars.

On average, our panel thinks ether (ETH) will be worth $3,671 by the end of 2024 before rising to $6,105 by year-end 2025 and then $12,059 by 2030.

Ether (ETH) price predictions for 2024, 2025 and 2030

ETH’s price is expected to rise to $3,671 by year-end 2024, according to the average prediction from Finder’s panelists. This prediction is a little more bearish than their $5,368 prediction in the July report.

The panelists also predict ETH will hit $6,105 by 2025 and $12,059 by 2030. Both predictions are slightly more bearish than our panelists’ average predictions from our July 2024 survey, when they projected ETH to reach $7,359 by 2024 and $23,549 by 2030.

Sitaram Kakarlamudi, cofounder and CEO Avici, is one of our more bullish panel members on ETH’s potential in 2024, predicting it will end the year worth $6,000, hoping that historical trends hold and it continues following BTC’s price.

ETH has historically mirrored bitcoin’s price. Ethereum is executing its roadmap like moving to proof-of-stake, making it simple to build Layer 2.

Josh Fraser, the cofounder of Origin Protocol, is also fairly bullish, predicting ETH will close 2024 worth $5,100 off the back of the newly approved ETH exchange-traded fund (ETF).

Institutional investment is flowing to Ethereum with the approval of ETH ETFs. Further, it’s never been easier for consumers to partake in Ethereum’s ecosystem through Layer-2 solutions, such as Base and Arbitrum, which have seen strong growth this year. As Ethereum continues to tokenize trillion dollar industries, such as RWAs and finance, the price of ETH could reach far beyond $35,000 over the long term.

Pedro Febrero, the VP of Web3 at Realfevr, is one the most bullish on ETH’s 2024 potential, predicting it will end the year worth $6,000 and by 2030 reach $25,000 since all cryptos’ protocols and devs use the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM).

EVM is still the number one world computer. The Market is gonna come back to the EVM king.

At the other end of the spectrum is John Hawkins, senior lecturer at the University of Canberra, who says the price of ETH will fall to $2,200.

While not the same environmental disaster as Bitcoin and other PoW coins, ether is still part of the crypto bubble and at least in the short term seems to be losing out to Bitcoin.

How high and low will ether (ETH) go in 2024?

Our panelists predict that ETH’s average peak price in 2024 will be $4,185, with some predicting it will climb as high as $7,000.

The average lowest price our panelists predict ETH will hit in 2024 is $2,093, with some predicting it will fall as low as $1,200.

Close to a third (36%) of our panelists feel that ETH’s price will rise into the $4,000 to $4,999 range at its highest before the close of 2024, while a little over a quarter (28%) believe we’ll see ETH’s price within the $3,000 to $3,999 range within the same time frame.

Around two-fifths of the panel (39%) think ETH’s price bottom for the remainder of the year is somewhere between $2,000 and $2,099. An additional 22% say ETH’s price will fall somewhere between $2,200 and $2,299 in 2024.

Johnny Gabriele, the head of decentralized finance of CryptoOracle Collective, provided an above-average max price prediction for ETH ($7,000) off the back of “regulatory easing, global money supply increase, and increased on-chain activity will leading to higher prices.”

Pav Hundal, lead market analyst at Swyftx, is also quite bullish and thinks that ETH will hit $5.5K, saying that the Ethereum network is the backbone of the DeFi space.

While there has been plenty of negative media about the price performance of Ethereum, especially when compared to Solana — it’s still the backbone of DeFi as we know it. As we see more daily active users return to crypto, I anticipate we see Ethereum flourish. Especially now that gas fees burn ETH, and the tokenomics are technically deflationary when the network becomes busy. This is all on the caveat that users return to the Ethereum ecosystem.

Is now the time to buy, hold or sell ether (ETH)?

Compared to their feelings on Bitcoin, our panel is more uneasy with the value ETH represents, with 48% saying now is a good time to buy, with 37% saying it’s a hold and 15% believing it’s a good time to sell.

Alexander Kuptsikevich, chief market analyst at FxPro, sees ETH as a strong buy based on its moving average price.

Ethereum has repeatedly tested but defended a super trend in the form of the 200-week moving average. A bounce from this line will bring Ethereum closer to the 50-week average, which points near $3000 to the year-end.

Gracy Chen, the CEO of Bitget, thinks it’s time to hold ETH.

There are three main factors influencing cryptocurrency price trends: Market Sentiment: Heavily influenced by macroeconomic factors like the US election and Federal Reserve interest rate decisions. Technical Analysis: Indicators like Elliott Wave Theory and Fibonacci retracement levels guide predictions. ETH, for example, must follow certain Fibonacci levels to confirm a bullish trend, though the current wave may not be complete. Institutional Adoption: The participation of institutional investors and ETF inflows/outflows can impact prices significantly.

Ruslan Lienkha, the chief of markets at YouHodler, is also in the “hold” camp, saying that it may benefit from any upswing from BTC.

Despite the ETH/BTC pair being in a downtrend, a sharp increase in Bitcoin’s price could trigger a short-term rise in Ethereum’s price. With my expectation of a new all-time high for Bitcoin by the end of the year, Ethereum will likely benefit from this upward momentum as well.

Is ether (ETH) overpriced, underpriced or priced fairly?

In keeping with our panel being unsure whether it’s a great time to buy ETH, 48% feel that ETH is currently underpriced, and 33% feel that it’s priced fairly.

Only 19% feel that it’s overpriced.

Ben Ritchie, the managing director of Alpha Node, says that ETH is underpriced, saying multiple events will impact ETH’s performance toward the end of the year and into 2025.

Ethereum appears to be losing traction against its Layer-1 competitors, but ongoing development continues to strengthen its ecosystem while its security remains robust and network participants maintain confidence in the technology. The US election, combined with potential Ethereum Spot ETF options in early December 2025, will impact performance through the end of the year and into 2025.

Diego Apaza, the CEO and founder of Alpha Stocks Lab, says ETH is underpriced and attributes his ETH forecast to “its historical price action.”

Ajay Shrestha, a professor at Vancouver Island University, thinks that ETH is priced fairly based on its future prospects:

I based my predictions on how Ethereum has performed in the past and its role as the main platform for things like DeFi and NFTs. With upgrades like Ethereum 2.0 on the way, it’s likely to become more efficient and widely used. The current price reflects this potential and the demand for its network. While there are risks like market volatility and regulations, ETH seems to be at a fair value considering its growth and future prospects.

Is ETH going to have a strong end to 2024?

As to whether ETH will pick up momentum in terms of price before the year ends, well over half see it as likely and only 18% as not likely.

Miles Paschini, the CEO of FV Bank, says that “the general bull market will drive up utilization of ETH and related Layer-2 chains.” Whereas Damian Chmiel, senior analyst at Finance Magnates, says that ETH’s price will be driven by “bitcoin’s price going up.”

Joseph Raczynski, a futurist at JT Consulting, says that Ethereum’s use case will drive up its price.

It’s all about use cases. This single-handedly is the most important parameter for Ethereum success. It’s all been testing; now it needs to see action. That or Layer 2’s will have to grow substantially.

Will ETH ever overtake BTC by market cap?

ETH will never be the BTC killer, according to 64% of the panel. However, around a quarter say that it’s a possibility but not within the next 5 years.

ETH has many competitors that do things faster and cheaper, however ETH still powers over 80% of altcoins. Improvements to ETH layer two protocols will increase speed and decrease price, helping it to stay competitive in a changing world.

Every new token is trying to oust ETH in the various layers network. ETH has been shown to be very stressed in terms of usage and with a dwindling down of blockchain projects, where people are now VERY focused on AI, the functionality and popularity of ETH is not as high anymore. and there have been discussions with BNB is getting better, and even new coins replacing BNB. but rumors or high hopes from individuals don't make or break a trend, hence ETH is still strong in a sense.

ETH's growth in the dApps space, particularly in DeFi and NFTs, gives it strong long-term value potential. In addition, the transition to Ethereum 2.0 and its move to proof-of-stake has improved scalability and energy efficiency, boosting confidence in the network. We do see some softness in the ETH ETF as BTC ETFs dominate, but this could change once the entire market shifts upward.

My view on Ethereum is entirely based on my outlook for Bitcoin. While ETH is an important asset, it is still considered an altcoin and not an independent class like Bitcoin. Only when Bitcoin reaches its ATH will ETH be able to follow suit. And for BTC, I don't anticipate any significant moves this year.

I believe we have seen underwhelming performances from ETH ETFs. This has held back ETH price this year. However, similar to my analysis of BTC, I believe cryptocurrencies in general will be gaining in value. They have been becoming more and more institutionally accepted, and I believe ETH will also ride the wave and go up overall. As to when this could happen and by how much depends on the US elections, the economy and global geopolitical tensions and conflicts.

Open options interest is often a good indicator of where the smart money thinks an asset will head, and currently the most open interest at the end of the year is at $3,000. Given the relative lack of interest in spot ETFs, when compared against BTC, and the tendency for digital assets to rally through the end of the year, it would make sense that ETH will moderately rally towards $3,000 by year's end.
