How to buy SpaceX stock

Elon Musk's SpaceX is not yet publicly traded, but rumors suggest an IPO could happen.

Elon Musk’s side project SpaceX has been gaining a lot of traction recently, especially as outer space exploration and satellite technology is becoming of increasing interest across the globe.(1)

Through SpaceX’s Starlink program, the company is looking to devise a large-scale mesh network comprising thousands of satellites capable of delivering instant high-speed internet to individuals across the globe. SpaceX President and engineer Gwynne Shotwell previously said Starlink will cost the company around $10 billion to build, but reports suggest the project could help SpaceX rake in $30 billion per annum — more than 10 times the annual revenue of its existing rocket business. (2)

Not only that, since its inception, SpaceX has sent over 1,000 satellites into space, thanks to which its Starlink program has already been rolled out (for a monthly price of $120) in its beta form, currently providing high-speed Internet to over 10,000 users in the United States and abroad. (3)

Can I buy SpaceX shares?

The simple answer is you can’t because SpaceX is not publicly listed on a stock exchange.

However, when asked on Twitter about the company offering its IPO in the near term, Elon Musk replied in the affirmative, stating that such an offering may be in the cards soon. “Once we can predict cash flow reasonably well, Starlink will IPO,” he added.

How do you buy SpaceX shares?

The whole process can take as little as 15 minutes.

Is SpaceX a good investment?

Though not yet available as an investment, it bears mentioning that SpaceX is the first private venture that has actually been able to send humans to the International Space Station (ISS). (4) It’s also the first company to reuse a rocket capable of orbiting the earth multiple times. (5) These feats have helped spur the company’s perceived stock value in the eyes of many, even portraying Musk as a visionary and entrepreneur with one eye set firmly on the future.

As a result, it stands to reason that the entire space exploration sector may be set to rise. For example, global security and aerospace company Lockheed Martin (LMT), which also builds satellites and spacecraft, has seen its stock rise by more than 26% over the past two years.

A similar trend may also be witnessed in relation to other companies like Aerojet Rocketdyne (AJRD), which manufactures rockets and propulsion systems for the aerospace, defense and space industries, and space technology and communications company Maxar Technologies (MAXR). Maxar Technologies designs and manufactures satellites and spacecraft components for space communications and exploration, as well as high-resolution satellite imagery of Earth.
