Our verdict
This debit card offers 5% off your Target purchases, making every day a sale day when you shop the bull's eye.
Target's branded RedCard debit card offers an exclusive 5% savings discount whenever you shop at the retail giant. In addition to the card's discount, you can combine coupons and specials to save even more. It makes the most sense if you're a Target aficionado and don't mind a store-specific debit card that withdraws the money straight out of your linked bank account.
Best for: Frequent Target shoppers looking to snag an extra 5% off every purchase.

Who is the Target REDcard Debit Card best for?
The Target REDcard Debit Card is best for loyal Target shoppers who want to earn rewards on their everyday purchases. The card offers 5% off their everyday purchases in stores and online and speed deliveries.
What we like about the Target REDcard Debit Card
The Target REDcard Debit Card is a convenient way to earn 5% off all purchases from Target. Instead of a cashback reward system that you earn and later redeem, you’ll enjoy a 5% discount on purchases right away, with a few exclusions like prescriptions and gift cards.
You can also combine your discount with coupons and other savings from Target Circle, its free loyalty program. You’ll also save 5% at Starbucks located inside Target stores.
Other perks include free shipping when you place an online order. Most things ship free, and eligible items qualify for free two-day shipping. Keep in mind that some items, generally smaller products like makeup, only ship when you meet a minimum purchase amount.
Where the Target REDcard Debit Card falls short
Like most store-branded debit cards, your Target REDcard Debit Card only works at Target. While its other RedCard options, RedCard Reloadable and RedCard Credit, allow you to swipe your card at retailers outside of Target, the Target REDcard Debit Card restricts your spending to Target only. And unlike the RedCard reloadable, you can’t add cash to your account at any Target store.
Also, while the Target REDcard Debit Card links to your checking account, it doesn’t have the same functionalities as your bank’s debit card. For example, this card doesn’t support ATM withdrawals, wire transfers or international transactions.

Returned payment fees | Up to $40, depending on where you live |

What is the Finder Score?
The Finder Score crunches over 300 checking accounts from hundreds of financial institutions. It takes into account the product's monthly fees, overdraft fees, opening deposit, customer support options, ATM network and features — this gives you a simple score out of 10.
To provide a Score, Finder’s banking experts analyze hundreds of checking accounts against what we consider is the best option: no monthly fees, no overdraft fees, a large ATM network of 50,000 or more, additional features outside of typical banking services, and the optional perk of earning interest. Accounts that are nearly free to maintain and use are scored the highest, while accounts with costly fees and few features are scored the lowest.

Customer service experience
Target holds an A- rating with the Better Business Bureau (BBB). Its Trustpilot score is 1.7 out of 5 stars based on nearly 2,900 reviews. But reviews are based on the store and not its debit card. The recent onslaught of negative reviews stems from recent backlash regarding its Pride merchandise.
While there aren’t many reviews regarding the RedCard Debit Card on the BBB and Trustpilot websites, Redditors enjoy the debit card for its perks, especially the 5% discount, and have described it as “a no-brainer.” The primary complaint is that, from customer experience, the transactions don’t post as quickly as a bank debit card transaction, which means you’ll need to stay on top of how much money you have in your account before you swipe.

Hi Daniel,
Thanks for your inquiry.
Yes. It is recommended to have a US-based account number and bank routing number in order to link the card to your banking account.
I hope this helps.
Kind regards,
Bella

If I had a red card debit from target, can I transfer money from my bank account to the card? If it’s hooked up to my account I wouldn’t need to transfer money from my card to my checking account and can be used at an ATM? I haven’t found a good answer yet. Please let me know thanks

Hello Michael,
Thank you for your inquiry.
You can link your depository account (anywhere within the US, and it can be either savings or current) to your Target debit card. Whenever you use this card, your linked bank account will do an electronic fund transfer for your purchases to go through. Please take note that this is not available through ATM withdrawal, as a payment to Target credit card, or non-affiliated merchants or stores outside US.
Kindly download and read the product terms which can be found on their website or contact Target for further information.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Jonathan
