Our verdict

Cash advance minimums start higher than some other apps, but advances require a monthly subscription.

OneBlinc used to offer allotment loans — and it still services outstanding loans — but it’s now transitioned to a cash advance app with advances up to $250. Advances start at $50, which is higher than some apps that start as low as $10 or $20 for new borrowers. And, like most cash advance providers, it doesn’t check your credit or charge interest or late fees. But it requires a monthly subscription fee to access advances — although it waives the fee for loan customers and offers a 30-day free trial for new users. However, a fair number of reviewers say they’ve had trouble linking their bank account or experienced other glitches with the app.

Best for: People who want fast access to at least $50 advances and don’t mind paying for a monthly subscription.

Pros

  • Initial advances higher than some apps
  • Has a free trial period
  • Doesn’t require a credit check

Cons

  • Requires a monthly subscription fee
  • Max advance is lower than some apps
  • Reports of a glitchy app

Is OneBlinc legit?

OneBlinc is a legitimate lender and cash advance provider. It’s accredited by the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and has an A rating. It secures your information using SSL data encryption technology and also uses physical and administrative safeguards that comply with federal laws. OneBlinc has a clear and detailed privacy policy that you can view on its website to see how it shares your information and how to opt-out.

What makes OneBlinc shine?

We like that OneBlinc offers a free 30-day trial of BlincAdvance. This trial gives you plenty of time to try out the service to see if it works for you before committing to a monthly subscription.

It’s also handy that advances start at $50, which is a respectable amount. Many apps only start at $10 or $20, which might not be enough to get you to your next paycheck.

Where OneBlinc falls short

BlincAdvance charges a monthly fee of $8.99 for advances. Several apps don’t require a monthly subscription and offer similar advance amounts. If you don’t plan to use it much, it might not be worth the monthly cost.

It also doesn’t distinguish itself with its highest advance of $250. Many other apps allow advances up to $500 or more — and some are less expensive, too.

How to qualify for OneBlinc

OneBlinc doesn’t give a lot of detail about how to qualify, but these are the basics:

  • Have an active bank account
  • Get paid by direct deposit
  • Receive at least two qualified deposits

OneBlinc says it then analyzes your earning and spending habits to determine if you’re eligible for an advance and for how much. It doesn’t specify a minimum income requirement, but based on some reviews, it seems to have an undisclosed requirement.

Other features

OneBlinc also offers a Prime subscription for $2.99 a month or $20 for the year. It’s a financial service that’s supposed to help users improve their credit, but there are no details about how it works.

There aren’t very many OneBlinc reviews or complaints on BBB. However, most complaints are about OneBlinc loans, specifically the inability to refinance those loans. There was only one positive review (out of eight) on BBB, where the reviewer praised the helpful customer service.

Reviews on Trustpilot and the app stores are largely positive. Happy customers compliment the professional and friendly customer service, the ability to change their payment date and the fast and easy process of getting advances. Complaints include difficulty connecting their bank accounts, getting their income verified and glitches with the app. There’s also a lot of negative feedback from loan customers who want to refinance but can’t.

What do people on Reddit say?

Several people on Reddit also have issues connecting their banks, and some complain about being denied advances after signing up and paying the subscription fee. Others have had better luck with the app and mention the ability to schedule a different repayment date and get bigger advances as you continue to use it. But one Redditor warns that if you’re even one day late, your advance amount goes back to $50.

Frequently asked questions

Is OneBlinc only for federal employees?

No, anyone can use the OneBlinc salary advance app. It used to offer allotment loans to federal employees (and other workers), but it’s phasing out its loan product.

Can I change the payment date for BlincAdvance?

Yes, you can extend your repayment date while applying for a new advance, but you can’t change the date after you’ve received the advance. Also, the payment date can’t be more than 30 days from when you got the advance.

Why is my advance only $50?

All new users start with only a $50 advance, but it increases to $250 as long as you make on-time payments. If you’re late, the advance amount resets to $50.
