Mercedes-Benz GLB safety and reliability ratings

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLB scores 4 stars on a 5-star scale for FWD models, 5 stars out of 5 in the AWD models with 5 stars in the side-crash test, and 4 stars in the frontal crash and rollover tests from the National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA). The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) hasn’t crash tested the 2022 GLB, but it gave its 2021 GLB predecessor the highest rating of Good in all six crash tests. Cars with high safety ratings are usually cheaper to insure since they stand up better in a crash and have overall lower costs to repair.

The NHTSA recalled some GLB models over specific safety issues, the most recent in November 2021 for improperly functioning driver-side window airbags. There is no recall info for 2022 models.

According to J.D. Power, the 2022 GLB has a predicted reliability score of 67 out of 100, where any vehicle scoring between zero to 69 is Fair and considered below average.

About this vehicle

The Mercedes-Benz 2022 GLB 250 SUV and the GLB 250 4matic models each sport a 2.0-liter inline 4-turbo engine harnessing 221 horses. It’ll get from zero to 60 in 6.9 seconds, and its mileage data says you’ll get 23 mpg in the city and around 30 mpg on the highway to a full range of 356 miles. It has an 8-speed automatic transmission with FWD and adds an AWD drive to its GLB 250 4matic variant.

The midsize SUV offers an upscale cabin with lots of room and second-row seats that, when flat, offer more than 62 cubic feet of cargo space. The entry-level GLB doesn’t take home any awards for exclusive interior features and comes with user-friendly dual-zone automatic climate control, power front seats and a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel as standard. Heated, ventilated and a third-row seating option will cost you extra, though, with that third row leaving passengers feeling cramped.

The GLB-class comes standard with active brake assist, adaptive braking, automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection and cruise control. Additional available safety features include:

  • Active blind-spot assist.
  • Adaptive cruise control.
  • Lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist.

Base price for the GLB 250 starts at $39,650, a below-average price for its vehicle class.

Bottom line

The Mercedes-Benz GLB is an SUV with low theft rates and average maintenance, making it expensive to insure. Compare car insurance quotes to find the best price for the coverage you need for your Mercedes-Benz GLB.
