CIBC eAdvantage Savings Account

For those with more ambitious financial savings plans, the CIBC eAdvantage High Interest Savings Account might be for you. The higher your balance, the faster you’ll earn interest. Accelerate your savings with the following tiered rates:

  • 0.3% on balances up to $9,999.99
  • 0.35% on balances of 10000–$9,999.99
  • 0.5% on balances of $10,000–$24,999.99
  • 1.2% on balances of $100,000–$499,999.99
  • 1.5% on balances of $500,000+

Plus, if your balance is $200,000 or less, you can earn an additional 0.50% interest if you save more than $200 a month. But there are no freebies. This account may not be right for you if you need to transfer funds frequently, as you’ll have to pay $5.00 per transaction.

Alternative: Scotiabank MomentumPLUS Savings Account

Like the CIBC eAdvantage Savings Account, the Scotiabank MomentumPLUS Savings Account offers tiered interest rates. Instead of earning higher rates for higher balances, you’ll earn a premium of between 0.35% and 0.65% on top of your regular rate for leaving your balance untouched for 90-360 days.

CIBC US$ Personal Account

If you have a good amount of US dollars and want to start earning more, you can do so with the CIBC US$ Personal Account. For every US dollar you keep in this account, that will earn you an interest rate of 0.05% - 0.5%. The monthly fee is $0, and each transaction costs $0.75 USD.
