February 13, 2025: Alibaba confirmed reports that it has partnered with Apple to bring artificial intelligence (AI) features to iPhones in China. In fact, the features have already been submitted to China's cyberspace regulator for approval — a necessary step to move forward. Markets reacted positively, with Alibaba stock on the NYSE rising 1.3% on Tuesday while Apple's stock enjoyed a boost of just over 2%.
February 3, 2025: A stay of execution for tariffs on imports to the US from Mexico and Canada wasn't extended to imports from China, where iPhones are made. Apples shares fell 3% in Monday trading, accompanied by speculation that Apple would need to pass costs onto consumers or move more of its production to India.
