The account features bill pay, cash management tools, free ATM access within MoneyPass' network, remote check deposits, $12 in monthly ATM reimbursements and the ability to set savings goals. Who is NBKC Everything Account best for?

The NBKC Everything Account is well-suited for anyone who doesn’t like fees, doesn’t mind online banking and wants an interest-bearing account. You won’t pay anything for monthly maintenance, overdrafts or ATM fees within MoneyPass’s large 37,000 ATM network. In addition, you can watch your balance grow with its 1.75% APY, which is higher than the national average rate for both checking and savings accounts.

But if you prefer having physical branch access, you may want to look elsewhere if you’re not in Kansas or Missouri. Those are the states NBKC has locations in, and there are only two in each state. But despite the lack of branch locations, it’s worth noting that NBKC has some of the highest customer service ratings we’ve seen for an online bank.

What we like about NBKC Everything Account

NBKC Bank is a primarily online bank and is FDIC-insured up to $250,000. It’s also an award-winning bank, taking the win for Kansas City’s Strongest Large Bank in April 2023 and winning a Glassdoor award for Best Places to Work in 2019.

NBKC has also earned fantastic customer reviews and ratings, mainly for its customer service.

Few fees

This hybrid account has no opening deposit, monthly maintenance, overdraft or foreign transaction fees. This is especially great, because you’re getting two accounts in one.

Getting to use MoneyPass ATMs for free is another great perk. NBKC also doesn’t charge fees for using an ATM outside of its network, but if the ATM owner charges a fee, you get up to $12 in ATM reimbursements. Fees may apply.

Passively earn

Most checking accounts don’t earn any interest, but the NBKC Everything Account offers an APY of up to 1.75% as long as you have something in the account. There are no balance requirements and no caps on earnings, either.

The 1.75% APY is also much higher than the national average for checking accounts, which is currently 0.07%. It’s also higher than the savings average APY, which sits at 0.45%.

Cash management and savings goals

NBKC features built-in tools for tracking savings goals. You can set up buckets for individual savings goals like Christmas, house funds, vacations and more, and take advantage of automatic transfers to these buckets for easy savings.

Where it falls short

NBKC’s downside is where most online banks fall short: Lacking branch access. While it does have four branch locations, they’re only in Kansas and Missouri.

It also has phone support during business hours — which isn’t always a given with online banks — but it’s only available on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT.

NBKC Everything Account’s fees and access

NBKC says, “zero is our favorite number,” and it charges barely any fees at all. Just watch out for the high $45 fee for international wire transfers.

Customer experience

Overall, NBKC’s customer reviews are very impressive. It holds one of the highest Trustpilot ratings we’ve seen for a bank, let alone an online one. It has a 4.3-star rating, and the majority of reviews are 5-star. Customers are pleased with the personal and business accounts, and most customers are extremely happy with the customer service, frequently throwing out compliments such as patient, professional, courteous and swift.

The positive reviews keep on rolling with the Better Business Bureau (BBB), and NBKC holds a stellar A+ rating, which is awarded based on how well and fast a company responds to complaints and reviews. There have been very few complaints in the last few years — a rarity for banks in general.

BBB customer reviews are abundant, and NBKC has gotten itself a fantastic rating of 4.48 stars. Customers are very happy with the customer service and speed, and many customers are pleased that the customer support is “real humans” instead of a chatbot or auto-response emails.
